Coggeshall's PDQ side made it two wins and two losses as they beat Chappel by 70 runs. Batting first on a firm Harefield deck, they knew a score of two hundred plus would be a must. With Coggeshall's Saturday opening bowler Chris Carter wearily running in following a heavy couple of night at a festival, the batsmen knew they had a good chance to get some runs under their belts. Overseas new boy Byron Ovenstone done exactly that as he sent the Chappel attack to all parts of the ground with an impressive variety of shots. Supported well by Robert Monk Cross he negioted the middle overs well and looked to heading towards a maiden Coggeshall century. However nerves clearly overcame him and he was out for an agonising 99 (Taking tips from Ollie?). Still Coggeshall pushed through and amassed 245 in the 45 overs, with Rob Cross continuing his good start to the season with a patient 62.
Chappel in reply batted well in parts, but were always held at arms length from the Coggy bowlers. George Blackwell set the tone for the boys with a rising bouncer that was too quick for young Chappel opener Aaron Keeble, as he gloved to the keeper. Chappel innings went on in a pattern very familia to the many of the regular players. As a few made starts, it was Brett Patmore who crafted a well played 90 to spearhead Chappel's run-chase. However when he was dismissed the game as a contest was all but over. Chris Carter added 40 odd runs but they eventaully fell all -out for 184 to give Coggy a 70 run victory and leave them sitting mid table in PDQ Div 1.
This Sunday Coggy host Eight Ash Green at Harefield. The boys know this will be a tough fixture as Eight Ash Green sit tied top with in-form Bocking.
