Parker the hero with bat and ball as the III's get their promotion challenge back on track
After last weeks agonising four run defeat to Halstead, skipper John Blackwell and his troops rallied well to take all twenty points against St Osyth. On a decent Airfield track Coggy batted well. Their score of 186 all out was spearheaded by Ryan Parker. The 18 year old applied himself superbly after a shaky start to the season last week. It would seem John was just happy for him to turn up on time, however Ryan went out and scored a well-crafted 80 runs, eventually being dismissed as he began to run out of partners. The rest of the team chipped in well and posted a decent score just short of two-hundred. After tea the boys bowled well and pressured the required run-rate. With St Osyth making a staedy start, Ryan Parker then bowled a devastating spell of six wickets for just seven runs. The opposition rallied but could only muster 123 as their final wicket fell.
With an average of 15 and sitting in fourth place, Coggeshall III's will now look to mount a serious challenge for promtion in Division 8. For a few years now players at the club have pointed at the gap between the twos and the threes. Promotion into Div 7 seems a very realistic target with the boys fielding a mix off wise old heads and passionate youngsters. The III's travel to local rivals Braintree this weekend. Although they have lost all three of their opening games, Cogg will know any game again Braintree will be a competitive one. With skipper Jabba on holiday the boys will need to focus this Saturday. The game starts at 1pm.
